How can you tell if your body needs a detox?

Actually, your body will tell you – you just have to know what to look for when it’s trying to communicate to you.

Many times people overlook the symptoms of a toxic body because they seem like normal things almost everyone experiences from time to time.

What you need to pay attention to is how often those symptoms appear.  For example, if you frequently get tired in the afternoon, most likely your body is sluggish due to the toxins floating around the cells.

If you’ve noticed any of the 10 symptoms below, you’ll will most likely benefit from a detox.

A detox isn’t a quick fix – it is the perfect starting point towards a lifestyle change.

Low Energy/Fatigued
With the drastic rise of energy drinks and the increasing popularity of caffeinated beverages, you’d think there was a low energy epidemic in full swing.  Trying to boost your energy with stimulants like caffeine only worsen the problem – after the pick-me-up, there is an energy crash that leaves you feeling more tired.  Not only that, but these beverages usually put unwanted burden on the liver, sending you further down the low-energy spiral.If you wake up in the morning feeling sluggish, and pretty much stay that way throughout the day with varying degrees of lethargy, you should definitely consider a detox.  A detox can help you flush out heavy metals, chemicals, and other toxins that are preventing you from feeling energetic and full of pep.

Constipated
Constipation is a sign that something isn’t right in your digestive system.  If you’ve tried increasing your fiber intake, and you’re still not having 3+ bowel movements per day, your body is telling you that there is a larger, more pressing problem.  If you’ve accumulated years of waste in your bowels and colon, including impacted fecal matter, a detox in conjunction with eating plenty of raw fruits and vegetables will clean you out, improve your digestive health and assist your body in getting the vitamins and minerals it so badly needs.

Brain Fog/Unable to Focus
There are more and more energy drinks on the market that promise to improve your focus.  I think that’s a sign that many people need to go on a detox program because of all the toxins they’re exposed to on a daily basis.  If you consistently find yourself lacking the ability to focus and adrift in a mental fog, don’t misread it as a sign to use a stimulating drink or a prescription drug.  Toxins in the form of candida (fungus) and heavy metals prevent your brain from firing on all cylinders – and once they’re removed, clarity, focus, and concentration is restored.

Feeling Depressed
“You are what you eat” is truer than true.  Your mood can change with the right or wrong meal, and eating foods that are low-quality or even toxic to the body over long periods of time can put you in a depressed state.  Merely eating healthy foods may not be the fix because toxins will block the nutrients from finding their way to your brain (they have a funny way of nestling into the body and remain there unless acted upon by agents that are designed to extract them from your cells).  A detox can work wonders because it frees your body of stored up toxins that can keep you in patterns of negative thinking, and can inspire a new outlook on life.

Overweight/Trouble Losing Weight
Tried everything and still not losing weight?  It could be that you were fighting an uphill battle thanks to all of the toxins in your body.  Introducing the body to healthy foods doesn’t work as well as you’d think it does if there is waste in the body that is preventing the absorption of the vitamins and minerals these foods contain.  Doing a detox first brings your body back to square one rather than starting at a disadvantage.  Losing weight is often a side effect of detoxifying the body, but it also sets a stage for healthy weight loss with the adoption of a better diet and a more active lifestyle that is maintainable versus a quick-fix diet.

Trouble Sleeping
An excessive amount of toxins can keep you up at night, sleeping in too late, and feeling like you need more sleep than you actually do.  This is because melatonin signals the body for sleep, but an excessively toxic body can reduce the amount of melatonin that is released, and cause a domino effect when it comes to getting natural, restful sleep.  A detox resets your body to a natural state where you are more apt to follow the patterns of your body’s circadian rhythm’s versus a sleeping aid which merely masks the underlying problem.

Sexual Dysfunction
It’s funny to think that many of the prescriptions filled and products sold in relation to sexual problems could be solved with a detox program, but your sexual organs are the same as any other organ, and their proper function can be thrown off when there are too many toxins wreaking havoc on the body.  Aging may not be to blame – but rather toxins that are preventing your organs from working right.

Headaches
If you suffer from regular headaches, rather than treating the symptoms of pain, it’s best to see if your headaches are being caused by a toxic state.  Be aware that your headaches will worsen during the detoxification process, but when you’re done, they should be gone or at least greatly reduced.

Unexplained Soreness/Stiffness
When you have toxins in the body that need to come out, you are more likely to suffer from inflammation and diseases that are inflammation-based such as arthritis, colitis, gastritis, etc.  Many of the foods and beverages that cause toxicity also lead to inflammation and are more acidic in nature.  If you’ve never done a detox in your life, the build-up of toxins over the years leads to premature aging and undue soreness and stiffness in the body.  A detox reduces the inflammation in your body, thereby reducing your pain, soreness, and stiffness.

Skin Problems/Allergic Reactions
Your skin is breathable – meaning that toxins in lotions that you rub on your body seep in and toxins that are already in your cells seep out through the skin causing skin problems such as rashes, outbreaks, allergic reactions on the skin, as well as sneezing, coughing, and asthmatic conditions.  Instead of resorting to an expensive skin care product to get rid of the problem, try a detox instead since most skin problems is due to excessive toxicity in the body.  One thing to keep in mind is that a side effect of doing a detox is often rashes and other skin problems, especially if many toxins are being released.  These will subside by the time the process has finished, and should not be confused as a worsening of your problem.
